Magnets and other Magnetic Materials

Magnets attract objects made of magnetic materials

Magnetic materials include the elements iron, nickel, cobalt, alloys containing some of these such as steel and some of their compounds.

Poles of a Magnet

Magnetic poles are the parts of a magnet that exert the greatest force.

Magnetic poles occur in pairs usually called north (N) and south (S)

Motors

An electric motor is a device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy

Parts of the Motos

Armature Coil: Consists of a single coil of insulated copper wire in the form of a rectangle. It is supported in such a way that it can spin freely. It is arranged in such a way that it lies directly in between two permanent or strong magnets.

Strong Magnets: The armature is placed between 2 strong field magnets which provide a strong magnetic field
